Can interfaith marriage work without one partner converting?

Yes, by loving God first.
Toni King, Unity Minister, Unity Center of Reno

Coming from different religions doesn’t necessarily mean your values can’t be aligned. After all, the same gold thread of Truth runs through all religion. Individuals coming together without each having first made an effort to explore their own unconscious — getting to know motivations, triggers, judgements — can lead to the deterioration of a partnership thought to be built on a foundation of love. The familiar relationship expression, “Love isn’t always enough,” happens when we ignore the personal healing, inner work that must be done; forgetting to love ourselves first.

Jesus tells us to love the Lord completely with heart, soul and mind. Only then does he command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” Loving God first leads to self-love because we get to know ourselves through our relationship with God. We’re then more able to see God reflected not only in ourselves but in others, too, as divine sparks, regardless of religion.

God Is Beingness, Itself. God doesn’t “love” us, God is Love, everywhere present. Not love as we understand it to be, but a Love so immense and so far beyond human comprehension that an entire intelligent universe – of which we have miniscule awareness – was created from the power of It. This awesome, wondrous creation is layered with consciousness that vibrates in response to our own consciousness. It is a “Yes” universe. Our freedom to believe what we choose and to create and manifest in accordance with those beliefs, is reflected in a universe that supports those beliefs, whatever they may be. God, Love, provides an entire universe as a playground for us to experience ourselves, to know ourselves, and eventually, to know God. It is in the glimpse of the divine that we are inspired to seek a greater awareness of our oneness with God. ... See MoreSee Less

Reno Journal Gazette Faith Forum is produced by religious stateman Rajan Zed.How do you know when you're on the right path? All paths lead to the OneToni King, Unity Minister, Unity Center of RenoWe are always on the right path. We cannot be anywhere other than where we’re supposed to be. The individual paths we’re each on evolved from a lifetime of ideas, thoughts from parents and other authority figures around us when we’re young, creating biases, opinions and beliefs that inform our choices. These choices improve as our thinking evolves, but whether we’re leading a life of faith or one of seeming disappointments, walking a straight line or a circuitous one, God is in the midst of it all.Your path serves your higher good in a unique way. You may ask, “How can this difficulty I’m having be for good? I certainly didn’t choose it!” Accept the challenge to find the good in all things and respond with gratitude. Only then will you understand that all Life is in divine order for your spiritual growth and will ultimately lead you Home. ... See MoreSee Less
