Is it OK to swear in God’s name?

Speak from Truth
Toni King, Unity Minister, Unity Center of Reno

Polite society dictates not to take the Lord’s name in vain. Yet we invoke God’s name to emphasize reverence, e.g., an elected official’s swearing-in ceremony with one hand placed on a Bible. “You shall fear the LORD your God and … take your oaths in His name.” While I’m not down for ‘fearing’ God, I am a big fan of having an awareness of God’s presence in all situations.

Jesus tells us to speak from this awareness: “…it was said to the ancients, ‘Do not break your oath, but fulfill your vows to the Lord.’ But I tell you not to swear at all … Simply let your ‘Yes’ be ‘Yes,’ and your ‘No,’ ‘No.’” Meaning, our words are sacred. You’ll be known to always “be impeccable with your Word” (as Toltec wisdom instructs) once you’ve developed an awareness of your divinity – then everyone will recognize the truth you speak.

Reno Journal Gazette Faith Forum is produced by religious stateman Rajan Zed.Do our God/gods cover extraterrestrials also, or is their domain limited to us humans on Earth? The Creator of AllToni King, Unity Minister, Unity Center of RenoThere is One Mind, One Principle, One Life, One Power in the universe: God the Good, Omnipotent. This Power is All That Is and is the Source of all beings, seen and unseen, known on Earth and elsewhere. Only One Law pervades all of creation and has dominion over it. This creative force of Love yields power our human minds can only begin to understand but can never fully grasp. Our bodies are temples designed to channel divinity, but the creative process by which we live, move, and have our being is everywhere-present and accessible to all beings in all dimensions. As we evolve in Spirit, so will our minds and bodies. Creation is always moving forward. As our consciousness expands and our understanding deepens, our bodies will respond in-kind. Ultimately, even us humans will transition from our current density into beings of Light – and E.T.s will be our neighbors. ... See MoreSee Less

Reno Journal Gazette Faith Forum is produced by religious stateman Rajan Zed.What does Jesus mean to you?The WayshowerToni King, Unity Minister, Unity Center of RenoJesus, the Wayshower, is Master Teacher and Elder Brother. He isn’t my “Savior”, but my guide on the path to knowing personal salvation. “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I go to the Father.” Jesus’ life purpose was to show humankind the inner path, the way to the ‘Father’. Jesus wasn’t asking us to believe in Him as the Son of God, but to follow his instructions for self-realization that we, too, have the Christ-potential.In choosing the Twelve Apostles, Jesus surrounded himself with energies that would support his mission to raise the vibration of humanity. Each Apostle exemplifies a God-trait we can also call forth in consciousness. These Twelve Powers are celebrated at Unity Center as we prepare for the birth of the Christ-within this Christmas Season. ... See MoreSee Less

Sunday Sneak Peek

We inspire and foster Spiritual Growth in One another and in the community.

Rev. Toni Kings lesson: “The Blind Men and the Elephant”

When we think we have the whole story, we may be fooled into speaking from a place of authority. In order to believe we’re holding the one truth — invalidating all other positions — we must first separate ourselves from our divinity.
Affirmation: As I realize my divinity, I am at peace.
