What belief in your tradition is hardest to defend?

Unity teaches, “There is only one presence and one power in the universe and in my life, God the Good, Omnipotence.” In a discordant world appearing rife with conflict and suffering, we hold that God has no opposite, and evil isn’t a singular power unto itself. How, then, are we to reconcile systemic injustices, war, and other acts of violence? To the human intellect, this teaching may feel dismissive or even delusional and challenges societal perceptions of reality.

Imagine all of creation forming from an inexhaustible Divine Power so immense, everything we see is derived from That. Next, intuit the center of your consciousness as resonating with an awareness that you are of this All-Powerful Good. Is this less plausible than a devil on your shoulder wielding power, entrapping you into evil deeds? Remove mental distortions of human, ego-based thinking, and what remains is God. And that God is Good.

You Are Happiness Itself

A Course in Miracles (Lesson 103) teaches that “God, being Love, is also happiness.” Because we are one with love, we are also one with happiness. The only reason we do not experience continual happiness is our belief in separation. Like a dense cloud blocking the sun, misidentifying as a separate “me” can cover our light, but can never diminish it.

She is the founder of Folx with Faith, an LGBTQIA+ affinity group that gathers for spiritual discussion and healing from religious trauma. You can read Rev. Jacquie’s literary offerings in Spirituality and Health, a bi-monthly Unity Publication, available in the UCR bookstore. There will be a workshop following the service that day – details to come!
