Are “traditional family values” truly divine commands?

I wouldn’t throw the baby out with the bathwater, but I do bristle at “traditional” when placed in front of “family values” – and I don’t get that oogie feeling with anything divine. Much of what is considered “good Christian values” come from a version of Christianity that doesn’t reflect my own interpretation of what Jesus came to teach us. So, no, “traditional family values” are not divine commands. We have the Ten Commandments for that – which should also be up for interpretation. But it is the divine wisdom within us, when we turn inward and connect with Source, that guides us to higher levels of understanding. This is the core wisdom we should look to when developing our own values that will influence family systems. It’s a practice worthy of modeling for our children – who will of course learn to do the same inner work for developing their own values.
